Casino Royale

Was fabulous and as all Bond films should be. Craig Daniel is so sexy and what an arse on him. *sigh*

The Scales

I had hoped that just buying a set of bathroom scales would cause the fat to drop from my body as I was now watching my weight and you know what? It didn't. Gobsmacked, I can tell you.

2 months later I'm still 70 give or take a kilo. What I should have bought was a full length mirror. That tells you waaaay more than a set of scales. No matter how much you don't want to believe it, the mirror doesn't lie.

What I should do as well is change the setting from kilos to pounds as kilos really have no meaning to me when applied to my body. 5 or 10 kilos of spuds that I understand...oh Lord 7 10 kilos bags of potatoes....actually that may have helped.

Exercise

So I've been shocked into doing something pretty drastic and have started swimming again. I've done nothing since the spring and it is very very painful. I've only gone twice so far, Weds and Fri and I will go tomorrow as well. So is a pretty reasonable start. Weds swam locally and on Friday I headed to Ironmongers Row, Islington.

Ironmonger Row Turkish Baths

Had a very me day in London; met friend for lunch, found rather good second handshop behind Oxford St and got 2 pairs of jeans for under a fiver. One to wear now and one to wear when the exercise start paying off and I can actually do them up. And later met up with some ex-colleagues in Soho for drinks and dinner.

This was the best bit really. I always wanted to go to one in England. I've been spoiled rotten by the Teutonic spas in Austria. So I did an internet search for Turkish Baths and this one appealed. And it was a woman's only day so I went for it.

£7.20 if you go before 12.00 for 3 hours if it's busy (I was there for around 4 and could have stayed longer if I was tougher) and after noon it's £12. This included the swimming pool as well so I struggled to do my lenghts. It was really nice to discover afterwards that this pool is 30.5 metres long rather than the normal 25. I've swum a couple of times in a 50 m pool and that psy'ed me out rather badly.

The Baths were a bit worn about the edges BUT it's reasonably priced, there are women's sessions (M,W,F) and it's open to the public, not just club members.

I had an 11 quid body scrub that took no prisoners. It was full body and was I scrubbed to a fare thee well (as my Mom would say though I'm not completely sure one should?!). Was great. The steam room was the hottest I have ever been in - hurt to breath. The saunas themselves were 3 linked together, warm, hot and bloody hot.

They also had a frigidarium and I used it once which I thought was very brave. It was one of the best parts of the experience, just for all the different the noises the various woman made plunging in. Really funny. All that was missing were lovely slave boys lurking about.

And everyone was soooooooooo nice! Though I suppose it is best not to throw stones whilst in ones birthday suit.

The Hot Baths by Suzie Balazs

I intend to do this again and again.

You know, I saw 'Steaming' years ago and thought, 'wow, that looks kinda good'. I would love to try the Turkish Bath experience, but I suspect it's something peculiar to London. We have baths here, as you probably know, and a brand new spa, but I doubt that it would qualify as being the same kind of experience as the one you've had. £7.20 for 3 hours is very good value, isn't it?

Also, I've heard this Craig Daniel is a very tasty piece of man-meat (*sniggers at the non-pc-ness of it all*) and should be viewed if at all possible, so I shall. I just want to go see Happy Feet first. Then 007 watch out.

:D

There is something about the hang of his trousers over some rather spectacular glutes that really does it for me.

Turkish Baths

There's a Victorian Bath in Swindon but the one I'm lusting after is in Harrogate - the tiles!

Lemme know what you think about Happy Feet and I might be convinced to go see it. I haven't seen a proper kiddie movie since I was one!
